Biochemical engineering

Biochemical engineering, also known as bioprocess engineering, is a research field whose roots lie in process engineering and biotechnology. It deals primarily with the design, construction, and advancement of unit processes involving biological organisms (such as fermentation) or organic molecules (often enzymes), with interest in biofuels, food, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, water treatment processes, etc. It has various uses in the field. The role of biochemical engineers is to translate the knowledge developed by biologists and chemists in the laboratory into large-scale manufacturing processes.
